about

"Rolling Stone Magazine Germany asked me to record a Beatles song for their covermount CD of May 2020. They had a list of songs to choose from and I intuitively chose the one I felt was most iconic, Let It Be. It would be the most challenging to find a way into and therefore the most fun.

To start, I looked for the heat in the lyrics; meaning what pulled me and made me want to know more. “Trouble” and “darkness” peaked my interest and so began the re-interpretation with those words, singing them a cappella in harmony. I added hand claps, a sparse drum loop and simple bass line on the Moog Rogue which I changed later to fit around the vocal.

Next I focused on finding a new melody for the verse by looping that section and recording my improvisation. This is how I often create melodies; I try to erase my mind and sing to make my heart feel good, rather than anything having to do with “thinking”. I continued this way, adding piano, organ and tambourine until I felt like the song had reached its peak capacity and sent it off!"
